CNC Routing & Wooden Component Manufacturers

Lydwood offers high quality production for wooden components, using not just CNC routing. We have over 80 machines in our factory and work with both sheet materials and solid timbers.

We have a wealth of experience as we have been manufacturing wooden components since 1964 - learn more about our history.

Our expertise lies in the supply wooden components to businesses. This ranges from point of sale display stands, picture frames, handles, furniture components and much more.

We supply for both bespoke one-offs to mass production of components. We have supplied intricate CNC routed mouldings for restoration work to thousands of repeat components using our highly productive four or six head CNC routers.

We saw and plane all solid timbers onsite, and when required we laminate timber where appropriate. We now even produce pressed briquettes with our wood waste!

CAD Design, Programming & Manufacturing Consulting

Our designers scheme concepts using the latest CAD software. Furthermore, we can consult your own design for manufacturing and cost efficiency.

We can receive a range of CAD files however, DXF and STEP files are preferred. Our skilled CAD technicians can reverse engineer items too.

Once designs are finalised, we program our CNC routers ready for manufacture. Our experienced programmers are experts in the best methods of machining wood which means we can prevent breakout and minimise machine marks.

Lydwoods' vast experience sets us ahead of our competitors as we achieve better results straight off the machine, which minimises the post machining finishing required.

CNC Routing & Machining

At Lydwood we have 9 heavy duty CNC Routers: each CNC router has different specifications varying from a single routing head with automatic tool change through to twin table machines with 6 routing spindles, which is perfect for high volume work.

Our machines are industrial high-quality built machines commonly used in aerospace. As a result, they produce better results than our cheaper alternatives for three main reasons:

  • the weight of the Japanese CNC routers (10 - 14 tonnes each!) and quality of their spindles prevent chatter marks
  • the vacuum beds which have a 10 horsepower motor powering the vacuum, preventing components moving whilst being manufactured
  • the high-quality tooling we use

Customers often approach us after being disappointed with poor quality products and unreliable results from other manufacturers. They soon see why we pride ourselves on high quality and reliable results. Our investment in high quality tooling and machinery sets us out from the rest and gives you the best results possible.

Laser Cutting & Engraving

We can cut, etch and engrave using laser too. This allows us to brand your products and cut shapes not possible using CNC routing. Laser engraving isn't limited to just wood. As well as plywood, MDF and solid timbers, the laser will cut and engrave nylon, paper, card, rubber & fabrics.

Our laser is 100W and has a cutting bed size is 1200 x 900mm. Laser cutting enables the cutting of intricate designs in up to 6mm thick material. For example, shapes that cannot be cut by CNC, like sharp internal corners, can be cut using laser. Our laser works to a 0.1mm accuracy – giving repeatable, precise results.

Unlike CNC routing, there is no risk of thin materials moving whilst being cut. Whereas, CNC routers require an area to vacuum.

Finishing & Spraying Facilities

Our sanding and spraying facilities provide a range of top-quality durable finishes.

We commonly apply stains, lacquers and solid colour enamels in our onsite spray shop.

Our spray shop has the best Kremlin spray equipment, which gives excellent finishing results. Furthermore, our sprayers have over 25 years' experience of spraying wooden components to a high standard.

Solid Timber & Sheet Materials

Our timber and sheet materials are FSC or PEFC certified meaning that all our raw materials come from well managed forests.

It is important to put our planet first, ensuring our forests are alive for generations to come whilst using our best sustainable resource, wood.

Lydwood doesn't just work with wood! Additionally, we can CNC route plastics and composites.
